Re: A few questions regarding Grand Designer.

Hi, Thank you for your interest in Grand Designer. You can have a look at my sketchfab page wherer you can find mainly planets but also a couple of partial terrains made with the software : https://sketchfab.com/ignishot You can only import a existing heightmap, in longitude/latitude format, but you...

Re: Few questiosn about GD and GD Pro

Hi, You can do renders with up to 14x the viewport size, so, with a fullHD screen you can go up to 26k x 15k, so it should not be a problem. Unfortunately, there is no way of testing it before buying. I'm also afraid that the onboard card will not support it ... the experience I have with Intel GPU,...

Re: 360° spherical render???

The sun is not affecting the lighting of the nebulae, as it is a kind of trick/hardcoded light direction, just to reinforce the volumetric look. But considering the scales, the sun should not affect the lighting of the nebulae :) The sun is not baked also because it is supposed to be more local than...

Re: 360° spherical render???

Hi JP, Well, the texture exported for the background is a longitude-latitude format and is applied to a sphere to be rendered. So, it's a spherical one as far as I know ... Just take the exported texture, apply it to any sphere in maya, unity or any other 3D editing software or engine and it will do...

Re: Heightmap export with baked in Albedo

The exported heightmap is the one I'm using for the tesselated/displaced view in Grand designer, so it has all the details, all the frequencies. I've already exported heightmaps in unity/unreal and marmoset toolbag hundreds of time and used it with tesselation and displacement and it was working, I ...

Re: Heightmap export with baked in Albedo

All the details are in the heightmap, I assure you, it's just that your mesh is probably not tesselated/dense enough to see them. To reproduce all the small details you have to tesellate A LOT, that's why it's better to combine displacement AND a normal map to keep all the details. Also if you expor...

Re: Heightmap export with baked in Albedo

Thank you :) You can export the raw displacement by configuring your export options/channels in Edit->Options->Channels and add a channel with height ground. You have several options here, with or without the water, and also in 8bits, 16 bits and, since the last update, in 8+8 bits (8bits in red, 8b...

Re: Moons and Satellites

The new product will be also a graphical tool, that's all I can say. I'll communicate when it'll be advanced enough. Concerning your 2 links you've sent ... er ... the background generation in GD is giving much better results with much more control AFAIK. You can use it in 2D plane instead of 360 lo...

Re: Moons and Satellites

Hi, I'm good, thanks for asking, I hope you're ok too. Concerning your questions : 1) There is a 2.0 in the pipeline, but it's on hold for the moment as I'm working on another big project, not related to GD. 2) Asteroids and moons can be done easily, there are some samples provided with the software...
